Trearne - a fully engineered, modern landfill site

William Tracey continues to operate an innovative waste management policy, which maximises the re-use and recovery of materials whilst carrying out landfill disposal only as a last resort.

However, it is extremely rare for even the most diligently adhered to recycling and recovery programme not to produce a small residue suitable only for landfill. To deal with this in the most environmentally aware manner, the company operates a fully engineered, modern landfill site at Trearne.

Planned to accept waste in 2006, Trearne is committed to a rigorous operational working plan, encompassing quality assurance declarations on site works, as well as ensuring progressive restoration, designed to improve the visual aspects of the site.

To further underline the company’s commitment to a recycling policy, the site will be managed to ensure that ground, which was previously scrubland, will be restored to the environment through extensive landscaping and grass seeding. It is our intention that, in time, the land will also be returned progressively to agricultural use.

Middleton – Composting site

The Middleton operation is an excellent example of William Tracey’s multi disciplined land management approach. Principally a landfill operation, Middleton now accommodates both an aggregate screening and recycling centre and a composting process, making the best use of reclaimed land.

Operations at Middleton include the composting of green and other bio-degradable wastes, much of which will be recycled into landscaping, horticulture and land restoration. The growing construction sector benefits from the site’s capability to recycle aggregate and top soil for major groundworks across the west of Scotland, with material collected, screened and delivered to site using William Tracey Ltd, tipper service.

William Tracey Ltd is the first Scottish Company to receive PAS 100 accreditation for composted material in Scotland in 2004.
